[poetry p. 1]
1
May you be faithful kind and true
to life long Journey end
god bless the and thy partner too
and alway be your friend
Within this Book so pure and white
Let none but friends presume to write
But let cach line with friendship given
Direct the readers thoughts to heaven
I shall long and kindly remember the
unremitting kindness I have experienced from your
Sisterly hand. may the measure you have meted out
to me be returned to you heaped up shaken to gether
pressed down and running over
If there be a Crime of deeper dye then all the giulty
train of human vices it is ingratitude the
Lord preserve me from such a Crime
[poetry p. 2]
2
May you live to fulfill your Mission
on earth with honor and prosperity
and live happily with your partner
as long as life is desirable
May you live in the future as you
have in the past to sustain the glorious
truthes of the Everlasting Gospel witch whitch
teaches saints how to live and then to die
and then again to live and never Die
kind words are the bright flowers
of earthly existence they should be
used especially around the fireside circle
they are Jewels beyond price and powerful
to heal the wounded heart and make the
weighed down Spirit glad
[poetry p. 3]
3
May the friendship we have made
Incerase as years go by
Be true to your friends yourself
and your God
May your last days be your bist
lifes race well run
Lifes work well done
Now Comes rest for evermore
Feb 06 -/87 When hills and vallies devide us
and we are far apart
remember Oh remember
that you are not forgot
Mar 29/87 in Boise Penitentiary
in my prison sell I set thinking Mother dear of you
and my bright and happy home so far away
but my time will soon be up when I will be home again
and I try to Cheer my Comrads while I stay
[poetry p. 4]

1
Oh my love one write to me
Theres naught would please me better
Then to have good news from the
A Kind and loving letter
Naming all our cottage flowers
And breathing love and duty
Sunshine on my lonely hours
A Scene of rarest beauty
2
Down in my hearts deep well
Love has treasured thoughts of thee
And thy Spirit like a spell
Ever clings in faith to me
Mid Clouds and Sunshine ever
I will be to thee the same
And time and distance never
Shall efface thy Cherished name
3
I will ever cling to thee
Our plighted love grows stronger
Far more beautiful to me
Art thou as time grows longer
Four and thirty years have past
Since thou gave thy hart to me
And I love the more to day
Then when making love to thee
4
Mid toil and self denial
We have trod lifes rugged road
Togeather sharing trial
[poetry p. 5]
5
Helping bear each others load
Older now thy face us grown
Bearing marks of toil and care
And the hand of time has sown
Silver threads among thy hair
5
In sun or Cloudy weather
Thy love has never altered
We climb lifes rugged hills together
Thy heart has never faltened
[insert] Fervently I grasp my hand
Fervently I breathe a prayer
Father had us to that land
where eternal joys well share
5
In sun or cloudy weather
Thy love has never altered
We Climb lifes rugged hills togeather
Thy heart has never faltered
Fervently i grasp thy hand
Fervently i breathe a prayer
Father lead us to that land
Where eternal joys well share
[poetry p. 6]

1
Do the loved ones pray for me
While an exile i may roam
On land or raging Sea
Banished from my lovely home
2
Home i never can forget
My source of greatest plesure
Far or near my heart is set
Upon that priceless treasure
3
There my partner kind and true
And my darling children dwell
i am exiled here for you
All because i love you well
4
I Can never give you up
I Can never Cast you off
Rather drink lifes bitter cup
At the hands of those who Scoff
5
List of martyrs may be long
Who have perished in the flames
Who for truth have suffered wrong
Time cannot efface their names
6
Many heroes have been slain
But the right will yet control
Strong may be the tyrants chain
But it cannot bind the soul
8
For this life will not last long
[poetry p. 7]
7
All things mortal soon will end
Give us strength to suffer wrong
And the right and truth defend
7
What is liberty and life
If were reft of those we love
Rather perish in the strife
Then well met them all above
Strengthen Loves Chaine
1
Husbands and wives shuld forever
Add strenth to the chain of their love
Deeds of unkindness may sever
The bonds of affection remove
2
One things may lead to another
Unkindness and harsh words may sting
Hatred may grow for each other
And oft separation may bring
3
Words of unkindness are spoken
That rankle the heart to the Core
The bonds of affection are broken
The heart is left bleeding and sore
4
Homes that are freighted with sorrow
Have once had a promise of joy
Hope from the future would borrow
But time would their castles destroy

Two Friends in exile
1 We have been to each a brother
And borne each others load
We have Comforted each other
As we trod the dusty road
2 Through the valleys oer the mountains
Where lofty pines grow still
Thirsty at the gushing fountains
Weve stooped to drink our fill
3 We have hunted for the sage hen
Our hunger to appease
And traveled through the mountain when
The rushing streams would freeze
4 Weve faced the storm the splashing rain
The Chilling sleet and snow
And plodded oer the sun parched plain
Where not a stream did flow
5 We have wandered long in exile
With burning thoughts of home
Each act of love each gentle smile
Brings gladness while we roam
6 And oft we wish the loved ones near
The thought bring joy and pain
We sigh to know they Cannot here
And long for home again
[poetry p. 9]
9
7 we kneel in solemn earnest prayer
And ask that God will bless
The dearly Cherished loved ones there
And save them from distress
8 Neath persecutions rod we smart
The pilgrims pathway roam
From loving wives and children part
And wander from our home
9 Tis not American to wed
More wives then one just now
But mistresses are kept instead
Society will allow
10 The world with woman go astray
One Wife and harlots then
They ask us turn our Wives away
And be like other men
11 To home, our covenant and to God
To wives and Children too
Forsake the path the prophets trad
To all these be untrue
12 They ask us barter Heaven away
Hopes of eternal worth
They ask a price we cannot pay
For liberty on earth
[poetry p. 10]
10
Two friends exiled for Conscience Sake
1
For Cons sakes were suffered wrong
And born the hate of men
And toiled along when weak or Strong
To teach the gospel plan
We have been to each a brother
And shared each others load
We have Comforted each other
As we trod the dusty road
2
Though the valleys oer the mountains
Where lofty pines grow still
Thursty at the gushing fountains
We stooped to drink our fill
We have hunted for the sage hen
Our hunger to appease
And traveled throught the mountain when
The rushing streams did freeze
3
We faced the storm the splashing rain
The Chilling sleet and snow
And pleaded oer the sun parched plain
Where not a stream did flow
We have wandered long in exile
With burning thoughts of home
Each act of love each gentle smile
Brings gladness while we roam
[poetry p. 11]
11
4
And oft we wish the loved ones near
The thought gives joy and pain
We sigh to know they are not here
And long for home again
We kneel in solemn earnest prayer
And ask that God will bless
The dearly Cherished loved ones there
And keep them from distress
5
Neath persecutions rod we Smart
The pilgrims pathway roam
From loving wives and children part
And leave our much loved home
Tis true we neither drink nor Swear
Nor enemies dispoil
Treat others kindly every where
And live by honest toil
6
We found a barren desert here
Where no one else would Come
The Indian in his wild career
Had claimed it for his home
But soon we dug the sage brush up
Askd God to bless the soil
We plowed and sowed it yielded up
Rich harvests for our toil
[poetry p. 12]
12
7
And now where once the sage brush grew
See apples pears and plums
And golden grain spread out to view
And Countless happy homes
Where night and morn the song of praise
Swells on the balmy air
Where loving family Circle raise
There hearts in humble prayer
8
But still the feelings deep and strong
Our enemies pervade
That we have dwelt in peace to long
Our peaceful homes they raid
They gather like a hurricane
Polygamy they say
Is not at all American
And must be done away
9
Tis not American to wed
More wives then one Just now
But mistresses are kept instead
American allow
The world with woman go astray
One wife and harlots then
They ask us burn our wives away
And be like other men
[poetry p. 13]
13
10
We might drink and Swear and pander
To the vices of the day
And with lewdest harlots wander
But put our wives away
We might kill our Children slyly
Disrupting natures way
Be cunning base and wily
But put our wives away
11
Change our virtues for their vices
in all things be like them
And adopt the worlds devices
Polygamy condemn
All the world would then receive us
Would treat us as its own
Only force our wives to leave us
Them cruelly disown
12
Then Utah would be made a State
Appear on fames fair rolls
And all her people would be great
Admitted to the polls
They say it is an idle dream
To fight this nations will
We know great odds against us seem
But God is greater still
[poetry p. 14]
14
13
Twas he in majesty and awe
Commanded us obey
This ancient Patriarchal law
We Cannot Cast away
Far better perish at the stake
Or die in loathsom Cell
Then leave the truth and Choose to take
The downward road to hell
14
To home our Covenants and to God
They bid us be untrue
Forsake the path the prophits trod
Our wives and Children to
They ask us barter heaven away
Our hopes of priceless worth
They ask a price we Cannot pay
For liberty on earth
15
We love our wives and Children more
Then all that earth can give
Without them wed feel wretched poor
And would not wish to live
Well meet them in a fairer clime
On the Celestial shore
Away beyond the Shores of time
Where mortals weep no more
[poetry p. 15]

Then dig up the weeds from the flowers
And let in the rays of the sun
6
Banish the demon resentment
And rule by the great power of love
Treasure the Jewel contentment
And angels will smile from above
7
Thy home be it palace or Cot
If true love and duty be there
To thee twill be earths dearest spot
Where love ones will solace thy care
8
There lifes greatest riches are found
And a foretaste of heaven above
How precious the joys that abounds
in the home that is founded on love
